An Oxbridge-like Institution
Heard it when in the AMU – many times over. I took it exactly in the same spirit. As I considered Jamia Hamdard as my Harvard. And took Jamiatul Falah as the best institution on earth. But let the more informed tell us if the AMU is really moving in the ‘Oxbridge’ direction.
What amount of critical thinking is incorporated in Oxbridge? Those who know more about it are requested to share it. I am aware of the observations of Salman Kureishy Saheb. Should we, however, make a beginning somewhere? Should we take the first step of introducing a course on critical thinking – not only in the Department of Philosophy but in other Departments, too, and at the undergraduate levels? I assume we should.
Also, wanted to contrast the alleged irregularities in the AMU and the vision of the founder. There is no denying that it is a human environment. The AMU is not a paradise on earth. But, it is a paradise of sorts. The irregularities will decrease if we imbibe the vision of the Movement – in letter and spirit.
When the bigger concerns and higher goals will become our concerns and goals there will be a necessary impact of it on the overall environment. Especially when the same will be most effectively communicated to all. Especially when the teachers will take up this job and will become the catalysts of change.
