Resolutions For Rights Plenty – For Duties Missing

We should get all our rights enshrined in the Constitution and promised by the Government under various schemes. No question about it. And no giving up. Still I have always wondered why should we only be talking about our rights? Why don’t we ever talk about our duties? Why not at least a fraction of all our resolutions resolves to do something for the homeland and for her people?

In how many conclaves have we heard: “We have discussed about our rights so far. Here is the memorandum and draft resolution. Now let us devote the last 20 minutes to articulate our duties.”? I don’t know if it ever happens in any of the conclaves. I would love to be proved utterly wrong in this observation and gravely mistaken.

How many of our periodicals remind the Muslims of their duties with the same degree of intensity as they do for their rights? How many times we talk about our privileges and how often we deliberate upon our responsibilities? Please look at our future discourses from this point of view as well and do ask these questions.
