Things As His Signs

And a Sign for them is that We carried their offspring in the laden Ark. We have created for them the like of it in which they ride. (Soorah Yaaseen, 36: 41-42)

It is fascinating to see very often that the Almighty describes the creations by human beings as His signs. It makes us wonder why is it the case. “We have created for them the like of it in which they ride” is an open statement. And a lot has been left for the people to imagine of. All those other means of transport, too, have and will fall in the category of His signs.

It is important to look at things in this manner to get rid of the casual outlook towards them and to understand the spiritual dimension of the Universe. Islam has accorded a lot of significance to material things and has given them a higher meaning – higher than what we normally perceive. The world, according to Islam, is not a myth. It is real, has a meaning and a purpose. It is so important that by taking it very seriously one could earn everlasting bliss.
