Disjointedness Of Our Thoughts
I find widespread incoherence in our ideas. We promote one thing and oppose its very outcome – both at the same time. We are living in a state of constant self-contradiction. What is the harm in it? There is no harm except that we do not get the desired fruits of our efforts. But then it is something which we are not quite concerned about. What should we do then? A little more of different thinking about all that we do. Any examples of incoherent thinking?
One prime example is the whole business of education. We want to educate every child. Wonderful and most admirable thing on earth! But then we don’t want to discuss what we want from them in return and ultimately. Or whether we want anything at all. We want the value of every single penny that we spend – at our personal levels. But we do not want any value out of the huge amount that we spend on education. The maximum that we want is the sponsorship of one or more students – in turn.
We want more participation of women on our Forums. When we find out that they are not that much encouraged due to our style of communication and we realize it, too, we still do not change that style. So we want to encourage our women and actually discourage them – both at the same time.
There is a principle in Fiqh that ‘the things are essentially permissible unless proved otherwise’. We have been teaching it for ages in our classrooms. Outside the classroom we forget this principle and actually reverse the order i.e. ‘the things are essentially prohibited unless proved otherwise’. We never try to relate the principle and its application. And contradict ourselves on a daily basis.
This incoherence is our enemy. Directionlessness and disjointedness par excellence! Intolerance on the top of all that!! Our tolerance will be measured by the degree of patience in listening to a different opinion. Thanks a lot for listening and warmest regards.
